Condition:

Upgrading firmware may result in loss of calibration data.

Description:

Some users have experienced the loss of calibration data when upgrading Apex firmware. To prevent this, a new procedure for performing a firmware upgrade has been released.

Does not affect ApexPlus, GigaPlus or GigaPro products.

Solution:

Instead of upgrading all images in one step, it is suggested for a two- or three-step process:

• First, upgrade the FPGA image only.
  <bootimage upgrade 0>
• Reboot
• Upgrade all other necessary images, excluding RFM: OS, Firmware, PIC.
  <bootimage upgrade 1-3>
• Reboot
• Finally, upgrade RFM if necessary.
  <bootimage upgrade 4>
• Reboot

It should be possible to continue to use the link (in-band) to transfer the files and manage the far side radio, however, best practice would call for out of band access to the remote radio in case the link cannot be re-established during the firmware upgrade process.
