Is it possible to monitor the APEX and GIGA by SNMP to build a graph of the traffic that is going through that equipment? To be clear, i want to show on a graph what is the bandwidth consumption of the links we have on our network. Is it possible? If so how to do it?
Yes, you can monitor the bandwidth usage on all of our products. You'll just need to load the MIB into your SNMP tool or use the OIDs from the listing for the RF in or RF out.
In fact, we suggest monitoring the following items on all of your links:
- Link Lock
- Packet drops
- RSSI
- MSE
- Tx & Rx Profiles (if using ACM)
- Temperatures of ODU & IDU
- RF Port Rate in Mbps
- RF Port Utilization in % of available.
- Tx power if using ATPC
You can download the MIB from our KB. Please note that the MIB and OIDs do sometimes change from firmware to firmware, so it is important that you get the MIB that matches the firmware you are running. If you search here for snmp or mib or go to the product specific page, you should find the latest MIB as well as any archives for previous versions.
If you have available sensors in your monitoring system, you may find other things that are useful to monitor in the MIB.
For diagnostic purposes, it is often useful to monitor the following, but is not necessary during normal operation.
- PLL Status
- Ethernet Port Statistics
- RF Port Statistics
- IDU RSSI
- LDPC Decoder Stress
- Uncorrected Block Counter
- Port Ingress Rate
